INTENSIVES

WHAT ARE INTENSIVES?

Intensives are an elevated option for those who would like to explore alternatives to the traditional fifty minute model of therapy.

This is a strategic consideration for those who are:

  • Wanting to be intentional in their pursuit of services that will result in change
in a matter of days, as opposed to months (or even years).

  • Need a significant amount of support to address your concern, and their
experience has not found that to be accessible in other spaces.

  • Have just plain been feeling that fifty minute sessions
have not been sufficient enough time with your therapist,
and have a preference for more exposure to their therapist.

  • Whose schedule does not allow for consistent adherence to weekly therapy.

FAQs Regarding Intensives

Is the pricing for intensives different?

Intensives are billed at the standard hourly rate, plus twenty percent. Additionally, premium times (evenings and or weekends) are billed at a further twenty percent. Whether you choose to proceed with the traditional fifty minute model or an intensive session, billing will reflect time spent on therapeutic work and prorated accordingly.

Is there ever a reason to NOT opt for an intensive?

Absolutely. If you are a couple considering an intensive, please consider the following with respect to choosing an appropriate format:

  • You are unable to tolerate being in the same space for an extended period of time without reverting to emotional abuse in your communication towards one another. Therapy will be ineffective if continued exposure to abuse is permitted during the therapeutic process. The traditional fifty minute model is recommended in these circumstances as a starting point and will be assessed throughout for expansion of tolerance.

  • You do not have collective goals identified. If the couple is not working towards the same outcome, then individual therapy is recommended first.

What is included in an intensive?

One should expect a standard intake in which client’s psychosocial and attachment histories will be inventoried to identify specific concerns that clients desire to focus on, as well as to provide recommendations as to what would be most effective to address first and therefore build upon. Intensives will be heavily focused on skills-based work to facilitate efficient and lasting change outside of the therapeutic process.

Additionally, intensives include the provision of personalized post-therapy steps to assist with therapy outcomes.

For individuals or couples only?

Both! Individual work will be streamlined towards comprehensive support of the individual to address his/her specific concerns. Couples work will include an incorporation of individual work, as well as couple work, with time spent in session including one-on-one time with each individual, as well as jointly.

How long is an intensive?

This is the lovely thing about intensives - it’s catered to your needs. It could be ninety minutes, or a half day (three to five hours) to a full day (eight hours). Intensives can also be stacked for multiple day exposure, meaning you could opt for ninety minutes the first day, a hundred and twenty minutes the following day, and a hundred and eighty the last day. YOU DECIDE based off of what is best for your schedule. Contact me here for recommendations, if wanting further guidance.
